Terrible Swede the "Earthy" Lutheran Blog vs The Largest Filipino on Earth vs "The Fluffy"
Doctrinal differences are important to the Lutherans because at the root of every false doctrine is the devil, seeking to destroy the Gospel.

WRT Origins...

...the topic comes on-and-off over at Here We Stand - A Mega-Lutheran Blog.

I'm not a Young Earth Creationist anymore - it wants to pin you down and force a confession - a sort of Law-Gospel-Law.

But don't be fooled - I'm not an Old Earth Creationist either. It desires to subvert Sciptures and the Confessions (including our Dogmatics) and establish Man as god - a sort of Law-Anti-Gospel-Law.

And they both dismiss the mystery of the whole event/account. Not that the creation event can't be explored with science and theology with any certainty at all. We just don't know - we weren't there. It's origins - it's metaphysical - it's a miracle.

  • So then what are you, Ron?

  • Almost right in the middle. A little leaning to the Young Earth, though. I just won't say it with 100% certainty because it was a mircale (a non-repeatable anti-natural-law event) and an article I take by faith. It can't be proven or disproven. The moment it is proved, the moment it no longer is an article of faith or a miracle.

Luther, Bonhoeffer & Kirkegaard speak of similar events: reason can't prove everything otherwise there is nothing miraculous. But that is not to say we don't fully explore using science and theology - for those are studies that God gave us.

I hope that answers your question, Elle.

  • If there really are any "Old Earth Creationists" who "desire to subvert Scripture," they've stayed away from those HWS discussions, for sure.
