Terrible Swede the "Earthy" Lutheran Blog vs The Largest Filipino on Earth vs "The Fluffy"
Doctrinal differences are important to the Lutherans because at the root of every false doctrine is the devil, seeking to destroy the Gospel.

Here's another profile of me...

...it's an OK forum for non-destructive testing. Some abbreviations are as follows: R&D = Research and Development; NIAR = National Institute for Aviation Research; ET = Electromagnetic Testing; MT = Magnetic Testing; PT = Penetrant Testing; UT = Ultrasonic Testing; VT/OT = Visual Testing/Optical Testing.

Anyway, we hope to start digital radiography (DR), ultrasonic phased array (UT-PA) and thermography (IR) at our research labs after the federal fiscal year.

Note my interests have largely remained the same. I should have added Star Wars. :)

No Fury...

...like a woman's fury. Apple didn't listen to my wife's complaint about our Airport Extreme and instead sent her a box for her computer. Was she pissed tonight when she got the wrong box. Anyway, I pity Apple's technicians, Riddick and Lord Vader. They ain't got nothing on my wife. Are there female Sith?

Erica and the Swede K-I-S-S-I-N-G

1337 Lutheran Wear provided by Fearsome Pirate. I bought these for my wife and I to wear to my graduation party.

I remember when I was little...

...a time when I climbed my first 14, 000 foot mountain when I was 5-years old - that's 1977. It was Mt. Elbert in Colorado. I thought I couldn't do it. I thought I was exhausted. My right shoe was starting to fall apart. My dad and/or uncle did a temp fix by strapping a belt around the sole of my shoe. I wanted to quit.

Then my dad said, "Tell you what, you make it up this mountain, I'll take you to Star Wars."

I bet my eyes must have got huge. I moved up to the top of that mountain as fast as my little legs could carry me and the trip down was a breeze when I thought about the reward. I didn't even give a second thought to my damaged shoe.

Yes, I saw Star Wars: A New Hope back in 1977 as a reward for conqueoring my first 14er I never knew I could do.

Now, I'm a big kid: at mid-night, I get to watch Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. Wow.

(For some odd reason, I remember "Sour Cream & Onion Doritos" as well.)

Star Wars M&M's - Darth Mix 3of3

Not a dark chocolate lover like Erica but I am a "darth" lover. Star Wars influence on a popular candy. More at Darth Swede.

Ron with Erica at Graduation 2005

My Wisdom and Beauty of Princess Leia has posted the same picture. Here's what the text says: "It reads: I'm so proud to be standing next to you, Ron. You've received two associate's degrees (one in mathematics and the other in non-destructive testing), and now you're headed for your bachelor's in mathematics. Keep those engineers in line with what you've learned, because those who operate the airplanes you work on are depending on you. I'll be by your side forever, loving you every day. Love, Your wife, Erica."

Can't say it any better.

My little brother Jason took the photo.

This glider mobile was at Wichita State Uni in 2003 but sometime in 2004 it disappeared. Don't know why. I took this shortly before being hired on the reseach labs on campus. More pix and details at The Flying Dala Horse.

Article III, what does this mean?

WRT this and this:

> Hi Ron,
>
> Do you know any verses in the bible that supports
> Luther's answer to
> article three? Just curious.
>
> That we cannot by our own reason or strength believe
> in
> Jesus Christ our Lord, or come to Him; but the Holy
> Ghost
> has called us by the Gospel, enlightened us with His
> gifts,
> sanctified and keeps us in true faith."
>
> Thanks.

My Lutheran Brother, Poker and Beer Buddy,

This is a great question. It's one of the most
compelling "reasons" that I'm Lutheran today. It is
the 3rd Article of the Creed that discusses our
sanctification WRT God through the 2nd Article.

The specific verses that may help would be:

First Corinthians 2:14
Ephesian 2:1
Romans 8:7
Ephesians 2:8-9
First Corinthian 12:3

More could be found in "Luther's SC with Explanation".
If you don't have yours readily available, I'd be
glad to lend you mine.

This article is pivotal: In my non-Lutheran days, the
emphasis was always on "how-to" live, what to-do and
not-to-do to be a Christian. This was inversion of
the second and third articles! Non-Lutherans and
myself (before becoming Lutheran) confused
justification (2nd Article) and sanctification (3rd
Article) or what we as Lutherans call an imbalance of
Law-and-Gospel. Matter of fact if we follow this
pattern, non-Lutherans would end up with
Law-Gospel-Law.

I'm CCing our Pastor b/c he rocks and could help you
better than I.

Your Lutheran Brother-in-Christ, Poker and Beer Buddy,
Ron Olson, the Terrible Swede

A little short history on the Dala Horse...

...and some highlights:

...Dala Horses from the Nusnäs-Mora area first appeared with their familiar bright decoration in the 1800's when the kurbit, or flower patterned saddle, was regularly added to them. This design comes from the Biblical story in which Jonah sat outside the city of Ninevah and the Lord caused a Kurbit, or gourd vine, to grow up beside him to protect him from the desert sun.

...Most Nusnäs-Mora Dala Horses are the traditional reddish color, but the same workshops also produce blue, black and natural horses.

...Dala Horse was selected as its symbol of identity with Swedish customs. The practice of using a Dala Horse-shaped plaque at the entry of homes, bearing the address or family surname, was begun in Lindsborg by local artists in the early 1960's. Today the Dala Horse is recognized as an unofficial symbol of Sweden throughout Swedish-America.

Thanks to the Hemslojd for the info. BTW, the mini-dala horse avatar pic links to the Augustana.
